Have a Happy, Politics-Free Thanksgiving

Self-absorbed creatures who have no life outside the Beltway world are the most tiresome ogres. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest advised Americans "sitting around the Thanksgiving table" to talk about gun control. The left-wing National Memo published "5 Things To Tell Your Republican relatives at Thanksgiving." And The New York Times served up its own version of "How to Talk to Your Relatives About Politics at Thanksgiving," stuffed with poll data and hyperlinks to other liberal sources of information.

And still...

Happy Thanksgiving

Worldwide travel alert: State Department issues warning for Americans amid increased terror threat

"Current information suggests that ISIL (aka Da’esh), al-Qa’ida, Boko Haram, and other terrorist groups continue to plan terrorist attacks in multiple regions," a statement from the department read. "These attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics, using conventional and non-conventional weapons and targeting both official and private interests."

"Authorities believe the likelihood of terror attacks will continue as members of ISIL/Da’esh return from Syria and Iraq. Additionally, there is a continuing threat from unaffiliated persons planning attacks inspired by major terrorist organizations but conducted on an individual basis. Extremists have targeted large sporting events, theatres, open markets, and aviation services. In the past year, there have been multiple attacks in France, Nigeria, Denmark, Turkey, and Mali. ISIL/Da’esh has claimed responsibility for the bombing of a Russian airliner in Egypt."

The department says all U.S. citizens should remain vigilant when in public places or using transportation.

To stay informed, people should watch local media and other information sources when making travel plans. Anyone with concerns about their safety should call local police.

People are urged to have a heightened awareness while traveling for the holidays.

The alert expires on February 24, 2016.

7.5 EARTHQUAKE hits Peru

Rubio budget win is dealing heavy blow to ObamaCare

Ron Fournier: I once asked, “What if Obama can’t lead?” The answer after Paris is painful.

The word “scandal” is bandied about quite a bit when it comes to the conduct of Barack Obama’s White House, and this administration has done more than its share to earn the designation “scandal-plagued.”

From the IRS, to the Department of Justice, to the Department of Energy, to Veterans Affairs, to the State Department managed by Hillary Clinton; this White House has been implicated in a number of controversies and alleged transgressions. All of these scandals prompted a short-lived moment of public angst and exacted a pound or two of flesh from the administration, but none indelibly marked this presidency as corrupt. Perhaps that is because they were, at root, political scandals....

All of these scandals and more are deadly serious for those segments of American society that they affected, but the segmentation of those who suffered narrowed the political impact of these affairs.

That is not the case with matters related to national security and to war and peace. Scandalous revelations that pertain to matters as basic as counterterrorism at home and American soldiers fighting and potentially dying abroad cannot be contained. As with the state of the economy, it is a subject that touches every American....

The revelation first trickled out in fleeting headlines in late August. The Pentagon inspector general’s office revealed to the New York Times that it was investigating the allegation that reports on the state of the anti-ISIS campaign were altered in order to present a rosier picture of the war than was merited. Those reports, it was claimed, were reviewed by a variety of White Hose policy makers including President Barack Obama. “Some senior American officials in recent weeks have provided largely positive public assessments about the progress of the military campaign against the Islamic State,” the Times reported in August. “But recent intelligence assessments, including some by the Defense Intelligence Agency, paint a sober picture about how little the Islamic State has been weakened over the past year, according to officials with access to classified assessments.”

The blockbuster revelation burned hot and bright for a news cycle but soon faded from relevance. Meanwhile, the bodies continued to pile up, and the bombs continued to explode in Baghdad, and then in Beirut; then they started going off in Ankara, in airplanes over the Sinai desert, and finally in Paris. Americans had forgotten the lessons of September 11th and, out of complacency and exasperation, allowed a terrorist safe haven in the Middle East to mature. That hopeful self-delusion was shattered on the evening of November 13 when large-scale terrorism returned to the heart of Europe....

No president, no political persuasion, no ideological conviction is worth sacrificing American national interests or the public safety. This isn’t a political scandal; it’s a criminal abuse of the public trust. If in the coming days these revelations are treated as such, we will know whether or not we have a truly dispassionate and independent Fourth Estate.

"Temporary" taxes aren't going to stay temporary if #govjerrrybrown gets his way.

Legislators and their union patrons can hardly contain themselves.

Anyone with eyes to see could have predicted this turn of events. In 2012, the Golden State faced a $16 billion budget deficit caused almost entirely by unchecked entitlements, poor revenue estimates, and years of bad legislative choices. Governor Jerry Brown went to voters and said, in effect, he wouldn’t raise their taxes; he wanted them to raise taxes on themselves. But he promised that the pain would only be temporary. And if voters didn’t go along, well, the governor couldn’t guarantee what might happen next to public schools, health care for the poor, and other beloved programs. No pressure or anything—just vote for Proposition 30 and nobody else would get hurt. Brown tramped up and down the state in the weeks before the election, quoting scripture as he often does to make his case. When the ballots were all counted, 55.4 percent of voters went along.

Prop. 30 amended the state’s constitution to raise the sales tax from 7.25 percent to 7.5 percent for four years and retroactively hiked for seven years the income tax on Californians earning more than $250,000. The top tax bracket went from 10.3 percent to 13.3 percent, giving the Golden State the distinction of boasting the highest marginal income-tax rates in America. The “temporary” measure was supposed to raise anywhere from $6.4 billion to $9 billion a year, with the bulk of the money intended for public schools (or, at least, the public school teachers’ beleaguered retirement fund). Brown admonished legislators in his January 2013 “state of the state” address not to let the additional revenues cloud their judgment. “The people have given us seven years of extra taxes,” he said. “Let us follow the wisdom of Joseph, pay down our debts, and store up reserves against the leaner times that will surely come.”

That notion lasted about a year before state officials—the ones not named Brown—began speaking openly of extending the Prop. 30 hikes forever.

Marco Rubio's First TV Ad: A Civilizational Struggle

And it's all abstract. Just another game of social justice. A little white wine and a little intersectionality. Throw in a dose of noble savage and watch civilization burn.

The Poor Murderers - Daniel Greenfield/Sultan Knish

Courage is a moral force. It makes us who we are. But it isn't always right. The SS were courageous and so were the Bolsheviks. So are the ACLU lawyers who rush to defend Muslim terrorists and their clients who blow themselves up to kill non-Muslims and their infidel civilization.

Warped morals that invert the innocent and the guilty, that turns murderers into victims, make courage into an evil thing. They make it into a crime.

Murder is not a mystery. Its harbinger is the police car, the plane flying low, the smiling man who opens his coat. Evil is not a mystery either. It is moral courage tuned to the destruction of civilization. The murderer can be courageous, but not creative. The ends of evil are power and ruination.

Liberalism is all too often the cult of the poor murderer. The thug who kills over inequality. The terrorist who bombs over bigotry. And it is outrage at the victims of its own Utopian crimes.

Utopia is another name for power. It is an absolute good that negates the humanity of every person on earth.

"His #1 Enemy is the Republican Party"

“If you're a Democratic donor its hard to get all excited about which Democratic woman will replace the current Democratic woman in the Senate.”

“She's perceived as very, very difficult to work for,” one strategist familiar with the campaign told The Hill. “She doesn't have real relationships and partnerships. She has acquaintances.”

The fundraising numbers point to the problem, the strategist said.

“Here she is, she's running for Senate, as an African American woman, she should be raising gobs of money,” the source said. “The fact that she's raising one and a half to 2 million a quarter, is absurd.

“She expects fundraisers who helped Obama to help her…She gets upset when donors don't flock to her, it drives her crazy that she actually has to meet and talk with people,” the source added....

Since announcing her bid for the Senate in January, Harris has raised $5.9 million and spent $2.6 million, at a relatively high burn rate of 44 percent. In the most recent fundraising quarter, Harris raised $1.7 million and spent $1.4 million at an even higher burn rate of 82 percent, according to Federal Elections Commission filings.

Ted Cruz: Let's Debate, Mr. President.

“Mr. President, if you want to insult me, you can do it overseas, you can do it in Turkey, you can do it in foreign countries, but I would encourage you, Mr. President, come back and insult me to my face,” Cruz told reporters Wednesday morning, looking directly into the cameras. “Let’s have a debate on Syrian refugees right now. We can do it anywhere you want. I’d prefer it in the United States and not overseas where you’re making the insults. It’s easy to toss a cheap insult when no one can respond, but let’s have a debate.”

U.S. Pilots Confirm: Obama Admin Blocks 75 Percent of Islamic State Strikes

U.S. military pilots who have returned from the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq are confirming that they were blocked from dropping 75 percent of their ordnance on terror targets because they could not get clearance to launch a strike, according to a leading member of Congress....

The policy is being blamed for allowing Islamic State militants to gain strength across Iraq and continue waging terrorist strikes throughout the region and beyond, according to Royce and former military leaders who spoke Wednesday about flaws in the U.S. campaign to combat the Islamic State.

“You went 12 full months while ISIS was on the march without the U.S. using that air power and now as the pilots come back to talk to us they say three-quarters of our ordnance we can’t drop, we can’t get clearance even when we have a clear target in front of us,” Royce said. “I don’t understand this strategy at all because this is what has allowed ISIS the advantage and ability to recruit.”

When asked to address Royce’s statement, a Pentagon official defended the Obama administration’s policy and said that the military is furiously working to prevent civilian casualties.

Deafening Silence from Western "Feminists"

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a harsh critic of Islam’s treatment of women, said Wednesday that modern American feminism is focused on “trivial bullshit” and needs to be reclaimed.

Speaking at the Independent Women’s Forum Women of Valor dinner, where she received an award for courage, Hirsi Ali reminded her audience of how far feminism has strayed from its original purpose.

#Obamacare is crumbling before our eyes

"We cannot sustain these losses," Hemsley said. "We can't really subsidize a marketplace that doesn't appear at the moment to be sustaining itself." He added that he saw "no data pointing to improvement" in the exchange market.

UnitedHealth is a big company that can survive this kind of setback, but not every year. And there are other insurers who could not take it even once. Twelve of Obamacare's 23 exchange co-ops have recently folded. Other insurers have abandoned state marketplaces. The consequences of an insurer exodus, however large it ends up being, will be an unpleasant increase in premiums in 2017. That will come on top of the dramatic 2016 rate hikes that were announced in many states this summer.

The root causes of this debacle are deeply troubling — a system so badly conceived and constructed that a company with a proven track record in making money on health insurance loses nearly half a billion dollars.
