Health insurers demand $5 billion taxpayer bailout in federal court. Disgusting.

Republicans on Capitol Hill are questioning the legality of a move by the Obama administration to give billions to insurers under a program implemented under Obamacare that they say is equal to an insurer bailout.

At issue for lawmakers on the House Energy and Commerce Committee is whether the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services violated the Affordable Care Act by diverting $3.5 billion intended for the U.S. Treasury to insurance companies.

“[Earlier this month], the administration announced that they would be using billions of taxpayer dollars to make payments to insurance companies under the Obamacare reinsurance program,” Rep. Joe Pitts, R-Penn., said Wednesday during a hearing with Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell.

“The announcement that the administration made represents an illegal wealth transfer from hardworking taxpayers to insurers,” he continued, “and this law is very clear—$5 billion of reinsurance fees must be returned to the taxpayers.”

Adjusted for inflation, America has spent more rebuilding Afghanistan than rebuilding all of Europe after WWII.

Mark Steyn: Nitwits of the Round Table

I confess that when I occasionally see some of these bluechip Sunday morning shows it boggles the mind what ABC, CBS and NBC are willing to pay for. In the final debate before the New Hampshire primary, George Stephanopoulos' "powerhouse roundtable" included Cokie Roberts, who offered the stunning insight that as she saw it after Tuesday night a lot of the focus would be moving away from New Hampshire toward South Carolina.

That at least had the merit of being accurate. It's when they stray away from statements of the incontrovertible that it all goes to hell:
[Stephanopoulos] then turned to the sort of clueless morons who have gotten everything wrong for the past seven months so they could tell viewers "what's next"...
Miss Coulter has great sport with two such expert "Republican strategists" (Sara Fagen and Alex Costellanos) as they shuttle back and forth between "Meet The Press", "This Week", Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer:
July 26th 2015: "At the end of the day, (Trump) is not going to be the Republican nominee."

August 7th 2015: "The fire that is Donald Trump is now contained. It's not going anywhere."
And it gets better from there...

"Why Rubio can’t win"

Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio Stuck in Battle for Second

The surprise was that Republicans had at last decided to play for keeps, the way Democrats have long done.

As is his wont, President Obama responded by giving the nation a self-serving lecture about constitutional proprieties. His courtiers cried out that Republican obstruction was unprecedented, even though it wasn't. They even hinted at racism as a motive. In other words, this ersatz drama has been par for the course.

Then up popped old C-Span clips. One after another, Democratic Sens. Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden were revealed to have argued, as though from profoundly-held principle, exactly the opposite of what they are saying now. There they are, in all their glory, thundering that the Senate has no obligation to take up a president's nominee. Even Barack Obama, during that short time when he put together a gossamer-thin Senate record, once tried to block a vote on a (Republican) president's Supreme Court nominee.

When the parties accuse each other of cynically and selectively reversing past opinions on court nominations, it's tempting to dismiss the back and forth as immaterial political ping-pong. But that would be to ignore the Democrats' impressive dominance of this sport.

EUROPE FLASHBACK: How the Feminists’ “War against Boys” Paved the Way for Islam.

I got many comments on my posts about Muslim anti-female violence in Scandinavia. Several of my readers asked what Scandinavian men are doing about this. What happened to those Vikings, anyway? Did they drink too much mead in Valhalla? Despite the romantic mystique surrounding them today, the Vikings were for the most part savage barbarians. However, I doubt they would have looked the other way while their daughters were harassed by Muslims. In some ways, this makes present-day Scandinavians worse barbarians than the Vikings ever were.

One of the reasons for this lack of response is a deliberate and pervasive censorship in the mainstream media, to conceal the full scale of the problem from the general public. However, I suspect that the most important reason has to do with the extreme anti-masculine strand of feminism that has permeated Scandinavia for decades. The male protective instinct doesn’t take action because Scandinavian women have worked tirelessly to eradicate it, together with everything else that smacks of traditional masculinity. Because of this, feminism has greatly weakened Scandinavia, and perhaps Western civilization as whole.
